Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to the hotel in Kigali.

Upon your arrival at Kigali International airport, you will be welcomed by our experienced driver guide and transfer you to Kigali City. Depending on your time, you will be taken through the cultural sites like the Museum, genocides and later check in at the booked lodge for relaxation, dinner, and overnight.

Day 2: Kigali city tour.

 After morning breakfast, the driver guide will pick you up from the hotel for a city tour in Kigali to experience her culture. You will visit Kigali Genocide memorial center, a graveyard for thousands of victims during the genocide. Proceed to the Kandt Museum for 2 hours where you will learn ancient lifestyles of people and have enroute lunch to taste Rwanda’s traditional dishes in a local restaurant. You will then proceed with the city tour to the resident of the former presidents to get a hint on Rwanda’s political history and later visit the markets. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Transfer to Akagera national park and evening game drive.

After morning breakfast, you will be transferred to Akagera national park in the South West of Rwanda which will take you about 2 hours and 30 minutes. Along the way, you will be rewarded with views of hilly landscapes and savannah vegetation. Check-in at the booked lodge and in the evening have a game drive in the park. Expect to see zebras, giraffes and later return to the lodge for dinner and a night’s stay.

Day 4: Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise.

Having grabbed your early morning breakfast, embark on a morning game drive in the North of the park in search for wild game. Expect to see zebras, Impalas, giraffes as they move and later return to the lodge. After lunch, set off for a boat cruise heading to Lake Ihema where you will sight both land and water animals like hippos and crocodiles. Return to the lodge for dinner and a good night’s sleep.

 Day 5: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National park.

After morning breakfast, check out of the hotel and embark on 7 hours drive to Nyungwe Forest national park via Kigali with a stopover at Kibuye for lunch. On arrival at the park, check in at the booked accommodation facility for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay as you await the following day.

 Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk.

Wake up early enough for breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters for a pre-chimpanzee briefing about the dos and don’ts. Later you will be led to the forest to search for the gentle giants in their natural habitats as you encounter birds and other primates like monkeys. You will be given 1 hour for pictures and videos after finding the chimpanzee and after return to the lodge for lunch. In the evening, you can have a canopy walk in the forest to view nature from above as you spread your arms and shout at top of your voice. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge from the previous day.

Day 7: Nature walk and transfer to Volcanoes.

After morning breakfast, you will have another trek in Nyungwe forest to up close a variety of birds, rare plant species and also monkeys. Return to the park and meet the driver for a transfer to Volcanoes national park. Check-in at the booked accommodation facility for relaxation, dinner and retire for a night.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking and relaxation.

After morning breakfast, transfer to the park headquarters for a simple briefing about the dos and don’ts. You will be given a gorilla family to trek and proceed to the trailhead and commence the activity. This activity will take you about 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and 1 hour will be given for photography as the gorillas perform their day-to-day activities. Later in the evening, you will have dinner and a good night’s sleep at the booked lodge.

Day 9: Cultural visit and transfer to lake Kivu.

Have morning breakfast and transfer to the guardian village formerly known as Iby’iwacu village. This site combines all cultural traditions of Rwanda hence you will be exposed to the former lifestyles, dances, dressing codes and foods of the people. All this will help you indulge in Rwanda’s culture. After en-route lunch, you will then transfer to Lake Kivu in Rubavu town. After checking in at the booked accommodation facility, you will then make a tour around the lake as you enjoy the cool breeze. Have dinner and overnight.

Day 10: Transfer to Kigali and departure.

 After morning breakfast at leisure, you will set off the engine for a transfer back to Kigali airport to catch up with your next flight. End of the classic safari.
