Overview

The 3 days tour takes you for a hike to Mount Karisimbi in Volcanoes National park. Being one of the tallest mountains in Virunga massif, the hike will take you about 2 days to climb up to its summit and descend to the base. You will have fascinating views of its snow, the Virunga ranges, Volcanoes National park and its neighbors like Congo and Uganda. The trip will begin and end in Kigali city with a brief city tour by an experienced driver guide from Shoebill Uganda Tours.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up and transfer to Volcanoes National park with a city tour.

After breakfast from your location, you will meet up with our experienced driver guide who will brief you about the tour you are to have and set off the engine to Volcanoes National Park. Before reaching the park, you will have a short City tour in Rwanda’s charming and well-organized city of Kigali with beautiful street lights and suburbs. You will visit the Gisozi Genocide Memorial center and the former presidential palace. Later, you will have lunch in the city and proceed to the park where you will check in at the booked lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Climb Mt. Karisimbi.

Wake up early enough to grab breakfast and with packed lunch transfer to the park headquarters at Kinigi for briefing and registration. Later, you will be assigned guides and a ranger who will lead you to the summit and commence at exactly 10:00 am with your hiking sticks together with the chef and porters. The hike will take you through various sections like bamboo, calderas, steep areas among others. As you are about to reach the summit, you will make a stopover at an altitude of 3700 m for rest, dinner and camping overnight in the mountain.

Day 3: Hike to the top, descend and depart.

After early morning breakfast, you will climb up to the peak of Karisimbi and have fascinating views which call for photography for 1 hour. Later, you will climb down to the camp and relax as you wait for lunch prepared by our chefs. After lunch, you will continue to descend the mountain and meet the driver guide at the base for a transfer back to Kigali.
