Overview

This is indeed an incredible and interesting tour to Nyungwe Forest National Park in the land of a thousand hills, Rwanda with scenic and hilly landscapes for a 3 days primate safari that you should not miss out. Situated in the Southwestern part of Rwanda lies Nyungwe forest, a hearthstone to 12 primate species including the endangered chimpanzees and the biggest troop of monkeys amounting to over 350 individuals. In the park, you will be able to enjoy chimpanzee trekking in the montane forest not forgetting a canopy walk to make the tour complete. A safari driver from Shoebill Uganda Tours will be your guide for the entire trip that will begin and end in Kigali city.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: pick up and transfer to Nyungwe Forest National park.

Depending on your location in Kigali city, you will be met by our driver guide for the entire trip who will welcome you and brief you about the tour. After parking luggage in the vehicle, embark on a 6-7hour drive heading to Nyungwe Forest national park with fascinating views of Virunga mountains on the way. On arrival at the park, check in at the booked lodge for dinner and a good night’s sleep.

Meal plan: full board.

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking.

After a tasty meal from the hotel, drive to the park headquarters for a short briefing and head to the jungle in search of the endangered chimpanzees. You will enjoy the chattering and touches of laughter from the chimpanzees as they jump from one tree to another in the due course of the activity for about 3 – 5 hours and 1 hour for videos and pictures. Return to the lodge for lunch and prepare for a trail to the waterfalls in Isimo. This will take you bout 4 hours walking to and from the forest with views of monkeys, rivers, trees among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Canopy walk and transfer back to Kigali.

After morning breakfast, you will set out for a canopy walk across the lush forest with rewarding views of animals like monkeys and birds that live in the canopies. Return to the lodge and prepare for a transfer back to Kigali city with en-route lunch at Lake Kivu. This marks the end of the primate tour
