Overview & Detailed Itinerary
1-day tour to Mabamba swamp which is famously known as a home for the rare shoebill stork enables you to watch these birds here at their favorite home. Mabamba swamp/wetland is about 60km from Kampala and it takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes to get there using Masaka or Entebbe road in Kasane town. The swamp attaches Busi Island to the fishing village at Kasanje and the common catches of fish here are tilapia and lungfish. The swamp vegetation mainly has papyrus grass with beautiful hills around it.
The driver picks the visitor in the morning after taking their breakfast and drives you to Mabamba swamp where you are transferred to wooden boats that move on the small streams of the wetland expecting to sight some shoebill storks that have a habit of searching for fish in the water weed. They are on rare occasions seen on the mainland. Each boat carries 3 people so that they will watch the birds well. A minimum of 3 hours will be spent on the water depending on when you spot the shoe-bill stork, though the activity can go on for a full day.
