Chimpanzee feeding experience at Ngamba Island sanctuary
Chimpanzee feeding experience at Ngamba Island sanctuary: Have you ever wondered how the feeding session is done at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary, consider joining our private small group Chimpanzee feeding trips to Ngamba Island and taking a boat cruise out on Lake Victoria to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and have a chance to view chimpanzees feeding? You will also be treated to sights of monitor lizards, birds, and photographic opportunities. Shoebill Uganda tours arrange both half and full-day trips and our boats leave at either 9:00 am or 12:45 pm.
Upon arrival at the sanctuary, you will be directed to the visitor’s center where you will be introduced to the project, its history, the residents, and their plight. On each of the two types of day visits (half day and full day), you will receive a personal orientation by a chimpanzee caregiver and view the feeding of the chimpanzees (full day visitors will view 2 feedings) from the visitors’ raised platform area along the edge of the sanctuary fence.
During your visit you will experience: chimpanzee viewing & feeding, shopping at the island gift shop, bird watching, experiencing other wildlife encounters, swimming on the equator, visiting a neighboring fishing village or simply sunbathing and relaxing. Our day visitors can also ‘get their hands dirty’ by being part of the feeding team. This is an opportunity for you to feed the chimpanzees from the platform. On top of being able to feed your favorite chimp, you will also watch as the chimps excitedly try and gain your attention to receive food (this activity is subject to management exclusion and policies).
Additionally, you can enjoy our fresh lunches prepared on-site, ranging between $10- $15. Please note, packed lunches and drinks on the island are prohibited, prompted by the difficulty of controlling litter associated with personal items. The ban seeks to enforce Chimpanzee Trust’s Environmental Management Policy and System, in place since the founding of Ngamba Island Sanctuary in 1998.
Shoebill Uganda tours can help you arrange boat trips from the waterfront beach, sailing club, and Nakiwogo landing site to the island, and at a pocket-friendly rate. Contact us now for more details.
